Epilogue, American doctor Maxwell Maltz said this: If you continue anything for 21 days, it becomes a habit. 21 days is the minimum time it takes for our brain to become accustomed to a new behavior. This is the 21-day rule.

Therefore, when creating a new habit or attempting a new change, you must continue it for at least 21 days (3 weeks). And Dr. Phillippa Lally of University College London conducted an experiment to see how long it really takes for a habit to become established. For 3 months, she observed 96 people and had them record how many days it took for a new habit to become automatic.

As a result, it was found that easy habits took a minimum of 18 days, difficult habits took a maximum of 254 days, and on average, it took 66 days. Therefore, establishing a new habit can take about 2 months to 8 months, depending on the difficulty.

Therefore, when trying to acquire a new habit, please remember these three things:

  1. To acquire a new habit, you must continue it for at least 21 days (3 weeks).

  2. Even if you fail to practice the habit for a day or two, it does not significantly affect long-term habit formation.

  3. Habit formation is not a one-time event, but rather the process of consistently repeating it is more important.

For the next 21 days, keep track of how automatically the habit you chose today becomes in a "Creating Good Habits 21-Day Challenge Calendar" or your own planner.

Q. "Could you please try to picture what I will look like in 21 days, 1 year, and 3 years? What will I specifically look like?" Written by Yi Chung Hwa Art Coaching
